About Us

What is the Pender County Education Foundation?
PCEF is a voluntary partnership of business and community members that is committed to
adding value to the education of all students in Pender County Schools.

Who are the members of PCEF?
Members of the group include representatives from the Pender County School system, working
professionals, parents, teachers and citizens who are interested in bettering our schools. The
Foundation is a separate entity from the Pender County School System, although we do have
members and volunteers who are educators or employed by the school system.  PCEF was
initially formed in December 2005 by a group of these individuals who saw value in forming a
business/industry and education partnership. The group has officially established it's non-profit
status and is currently working on obtaining its 501(c)3 status.

Current PCEF board members include:

Kelly Batts,
Teacher Mentor, New Hanover County Schools
Julie Ledermann, Account Executive, Signal Design, Inc.
Joyce Keith, Community & Schools Coordinator, Pender County Schools
Allan Libby, Topsail Island Chamber of Commerce
Ray Blackburn, Attorney

What are the benefits of having an education foundation in Pender County?
The benefits of a business/industry and education partnership are cyclical. Students participate
in creative learning activities made possible by business and community members;
teachers
are inspired to raise the level of innovative instruction due to increased resources;
businesses
benefit from a well-trained corps of educated citizens;
communities build citizens for their
future.

How are funds/resources used that are raised by PCEF?
Resources that are obtained by the PCEF will be used to facilitate students achievement,
recognize and encourage staff/student excellence and expand community involvement from
individuals, businesses and civic organizations. PCEF board members vote on how monies are
spent at a monthly meeting.
